At In-pact I am a behavior specialist for individuals living in supported services and for individuals living at home with their families. A functional assessment is completed to identify the purpose of the behavior and observations are done to create a behavior support plan. A behavior support plan (intervention) is then created specifically for individuals to reduce problem behavior and increase skills based on function.
People with disabilities have the same needs we all do: first and foremost among them is to be treated with dignity and respect. When you interact with people with disabilities, focus on their abilities, not their disabilities.
Before working at In-Pact, I received my bachelors from Indiana University in criminal justice. After I received my bachelors I was working for a local township as township investigator, helping individuals with rental, utilities and food assistance. While working full time, I went back to school to get my masters in social work. While getting my masters in social work, I did my internship with another agency that serviced individuals with intellectual disabilities.
I grew up Merrillville, Indiana. I am now able to help service the community and surrounding communities I grew up in.
