Role Description

As Financial Services Coordinator, I check the monthly financial transactions of Supported Services individuals, making sure they are not over-resourced or out of money. I complete a spreadsheet that is sent to directors and coordinators weekly showing how much money each individual has.

What is something that people with disabilities have to deal with that you want to fix?

Stereotyping. I had no idea how to deal with people with disabilities when I first worked at In-Pact in 1980. I feared them. I have learned that people with disabilities are more loving and nonjudgmental than most of us. They deserve to be recognized and respected. I admire people with disabilities and try to be more like them.

What’s your past experience?

I helped to establish the accounting department and worked at In-Pact for 35 years in various roles in accounting before retiring. My current job came up just after my husband passed away suddenly. I needed to get out of the house. It’s been a pleasure to see our individuals as they have aged yet haven’t changed over the years. I attended Purdue and have several certificates in Organizational Leadership & Supervision.

What do you like about working at In-Pact?

I am very part-time, so unfortunately, I don’t know most of the staff. I love my job and the staff that I am surrounded by – everyone is so helpful and respectful.

Tell us something about yourself.

I grew up in Gary and graduated from Andrean. I have four grown children who we raised in Merrillville and now live in Indy; Lowell; CP; and Virginia. I have six grandsons who I adore. I currently live in Crown Point. I love April Fool jokes and hosting holidays for my family.

Empathy, honesty, and a great work ethic.

This is too hard to answer. I spend lots of time reading every genre.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Reading, reading, reading! Being available for elderly relatives – it’s frustrating at times but so rewarding. I faithfully follow the Cubs, and enjoy watching my grandsons events.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.
