After being an employee of In-Pact’s first group home, it was an honor to be asked to join the board. I have always had a heart for individuals with Autism.
Knowing that my involvement helps define the direction of the organization. I want to ensure our individuals live their best life possible.
In the mid-1970’s, I started my career as an assistant working with students with special needs at Elliott Elementary in Munster. I transitioned to teach a 2nd-grade general education classroom shortly afterward. At the end of my first year, I elected to pursue a graduate degree in special education services. Upon completing my M.A., I returned to Elliott in Munster as a special education teacher. Over the next 30+ years, I taught students with special needs in New Jersey. I subsequently returned to Indiana and worked for NISEC in Crown Point and Lowell at the middle school level. During my 14 year retirement, I have worked as a classroom assistant in Schererville for 2 years.
I am married to Selam Serrhini, whom I met while on vacation in Morocco. We reside in Merrillville & have 2 cats, but no kids! My nuclear family was quite small. My parents are both deceased. I have a brother, niece and nephew in Ohio.
