DSP Position, Third Shift Instructor

Reports to:  Group Home Manager

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Summary

This is a valuable position on the Group Home team. Primarily responsible for the assistance, supervision and monitoring of individuals served, as well as the cleaning of the group home. Serves a role in implementing program plans, promoting independence, personal growth, and enhancing the quality of life for the individuals served. Remains awake throughout the night to ensure that essential duties and responsibilities are met.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health and safety of individuals served while providing opportunities for personal growth.
  • Assist or monitor the individuals served in the completion of needed nightly and morning activities.
  • Implement and record program objectives, behavior management plans, and activity schedules.
  • Assist or monitor individuals served in the completion of meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and other tasks.
  • Complete the assigned nightly cleaning duties and tasks.
  • Assist and monitor the dispensing and recording of medications.
  • Communicate pertinent information to day services and schools.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with CARF, state and federal licensing regulations, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform third shift fire drills as required.
  • Perform nightly bed checks, document occupancy tracking reports, and fax to the office when required.
  • Participate in required in-service training and staff meetings.
  • Assist individuals with gathering needed supplies or items as well as evaluate them for illness before sending them off for the day.
  • Maintain appropriate use of time including arriving to work on time, minimum of call-offs from work, and showing initiative by staying busy during work hours.
Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED. Experience in working with individuals with dev. disabilities prefeffed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Interpersonal skills including an ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of consumer information.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance when transporting consumers.
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to physically transfer consumers, bend, stoop and reach.
  • Knowledge of basic housekeeping and personal grooming habits.
  • Ability to pass Medication Administration curriculum and New Employee Orientation.
  • Ability to follow plans that address a consumer’s needs.
  • Not convicted of abuse, neglect, or position-relevant felony.
  • Teamwork skills such as initiative, cooperation, creativity, dependability, availability, and flexibility.
