In-Pact was founded in 1980 by parents of children with autism to create an array of services to enable these children to be maintained in their own local communities.
In-Pact, Inc. was incorporated in 1980 as People for Autistic Citizens, Inc. Articles of Incorporation were amended in 1987 to change the agency’s name to In-Pact, Inc.
The agency received its 501(c)3 tax exempt status in 1980.
Original headquarters were housed in the basement of the old Ben Franklin store at the corner of Main and Joliet Streets in Crown Point. Offices were later moved to 182 West North Street in Crown Point.
Following a major capital fund raising campaign in 1997 and with funds and contributions from local government, the business community and the private sector, new corporate headquarters were built on the existing site at 12300 Marshall Street in Crown Point

In-Pact, Inc.’s mission is to provide services designed to adequately meet the needs of all persons with Autism and other developmental disabilities residing in northwest Indiana. This catchment area is inclusive of Lake, Porter, Stark, LaPorte, Pulaski, Newton, Jasper, Cass, St. Joseph, Benton, White, Carroll, Fulton and Marshall counties.
The agency will achieve its purpose through the acquisition of the funding necessary to establish programs and when appropriate, by facilitating networking with other service providers to meet the needs of the consumer as follows:
- Promote the general welfare of Autistic and other developmentally disabled persons at home, in the community, in institutions, and in both public and private schools.
- Conduct programs intended to supplement academic and occupational programs provided in the community.
- Establish and operate an array of residential alternatives for both children and adults.
- Solicit and raise funds for the accomplishment of these goals.
- Gather and disseminate information which enhances public awareness of Autism and other developmental disabilities.

In-Pact, Inc. is governed by a fourteen member volunteer board of directors, one third of whom are family members or persons with disabilities.
Working in cooperation with public schools and the
Indiana Division of Disability and Rehabilitation Services, In-Pact serves as a primary contact for persons seeking information on Autism as well as a source for linking people with Autism and other developmental disabilities with services appropriate to their needs regardless of age.
Nearly 400 staff over see the quality of care and service provided to its consumers.
In-Pact, Inc. is an Indiana private not-for-profit organization and is a recognized 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization with 90% of the operating budget derived from state and federal funding.
