How it Began |
 |
|
In the 1980's one of In-Pact's first service programs was called the Family
Care program. It offered people with developmental disabilities, who, up
until that time, had been living in state institutions, the opportunity to live
with families in a community.
Now called the Adult and Children's Foster Care Program, in-Pact makes many
different residential options available to individuals with developmental
disabilities.

Today's
Difference |
|
In addition to having children and adults living in group homes and supported
living environments, In-Pact has seen a growth of people with developmental
disabilities living with families in their own homes in local
communities. These foster families, known as householders, oversee the
health, safety and welfare of the individuals who live with them.

Long Term Satisfaction
Many of the people who are in the
In-Pact Foster Care Program have been in it for many years. They prefer
this type of living arrangement over other options available to them.
They like the home-like atmosphere, the small settings and the more intimate
feeling they gain from living with a family. In some cases, if not for
the foster family, persons would have to be re-institutionalized because of
their challenging behaviors. |
